The Cru of Les Pensees 
Les Pensees is produced on a distinctive terroir among the different soils that compose Lafleur’s vineyard. Situated along an east-west diagonal, Les Pensees covers bits and pieces of the historically defined parcels of our vineyard. 
This Cru amounts to almost 0.7 hectare on top of a soil composed of clay, sand and some gravel. Geological history and the layout of this Cru are the sources of its soil’s formation, resulting in a terroir much different from the surrounding Lafleur parcels: more clay, less gravel, richer and deeper, and more typical to the soils of Pomerol. 

An initiation into the world of Lafleur, Les Pensees brings together finesse and complexity. This “Cru apart” reveals a different expression of the vineyard of  Lafleur, translated through the great clay terroir of Pomerol instead of Lafleur’s signature gravel soils. The tiny size of this Cru makes it a very rare wine, and quite difficult to acquire. 

Vinification

Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with soft maceration and moderate tannin extraction

15 months barrel aging: one quarter new oak, three quarters 9 months old barrels

Bottled the second April after harvest

Stamped and sealed wooden cases of 12 half-bottles, 1,3 or 6 bottles, 1 or 3 magnums, 1 double-magnum and 1 Imperiale

Average production 4 000 bottles per year / AOC Pomerol 

Winery Description

Sylvie and Jacques Guinaudeau started their professional life in the world of wine in 1981 as the caretakers and winemakers at Château Grand Village, owned by Jacques’ family since 1650.
At that time, Therese and Marie Robin, Jacques’ aunts, were the sole owners of Château Lafleur and Château Le Gay in Pomerol.

After the passing of Thérèse Robin in 1984, her sister Marie, too elderly to manage the two châteaux alone, proposed Jacques and Sylvie to take charge of Château Lafleur as leaseholders.
It is in the beginning of the 2000’s that Baptiste Guinaudeau joined his parents at Lafleur, together with his wife Julie.

The family dream came true when they became the sole owners of Château Lafleur in 2002.
Today, they all advocate the same passion for subtleties, precision and finesse, which has always been the family signature.

Les Pensees

Founded in 1987 by Sylvie and Jacques Guinaudeau.

Les Pensees originates from a small stretch of Pomerol-clay in the center ofLafleur's gravel- dominated vineyard. The Cru ofLes Pensees brings together finesse and complexity,resulting in a distinctinterpretation ofLafleur. Historically a much coveted second wine, Les Pensees evolved into a defined Cru detached from the surrounding Lafleur's parcels. Today Les Pensees is considered as one ofthe greatwines ofthe plateau ofPomerol.

 

Les Perrieres

Founded in 2018 by Julie and Baptiste Guinaudeau.

The Cru ofLes Perrieres is our reinterpretation ofthe old Bouchetand Merlotgenetics from Lafleur, expressed through the greatlimestone terroir ofthe Fronsac region. The Cru ofLes Perrieres is composed offive adjacentparcels on the plateau ofMeyney.Quality and precision of tannins, together with restrained power and persistence make Les Perrieres a distinctive wine whose connection to Lafleur is beyond any doubt.

 

Les Champs Libres

Founded in 2013 by Julie and Baptiste Guinaudeau.

Les Champs Libres is the resultofour ambition to create a greatwhite wine ofthe RightBank. This young Cru is a reflection ofthe Lafleur philosophy through the lens ofwhite grapes. Les Champs Libres originates from four distinctparcels on the clay-limestone soils ofthe plateau of Ambeau. The wine produced from this Cru does notabide by the codes ofwhite Bordeaux.

 

Chateau Grand Village Rouge

Founded in 1650 byJacques Verdery,another ancestor...

Grand Village is the birthplace ofour family ofvignerons. Chateau Grand Village is mostprobably the wine thatbestillustrates our journey.Sylvie and I have lived atGrand Village for more than forty vintages. Viewed in the pastas a good bargain, Chateau Grand Village has evolved into a serious wine ofsophistication, elegance and power.

 

Chateau Grand Village Blanc

Founded in 1990 by Sylvie and Jacques Guinaudeau.

Chateau Grand Village white originates from clay-rich soils situated on top ofthe limestone mother rock. For the lasttwenty years we have considerably perfected our vineyard and winemaking practices, which in term, metamorphosed Chateau Grand Village white. Today this is a wine ofgreatcomplexity and exceptional personality,a singular reference in the landscape of white Bordeaux.
